The Southeastern Oklahoma State University Career Services office and the Southern Workforce Board hosted its annual Eighth Grade Discovery Day on Jan. 8.
Students and counselors from Durant, Bennington, Boswell, Caddo, Calera, Colbert, Legacy Christian School, Rock Creek and Silo attended the event.
The university said that eighth graders attended presentations regarding potential career and educational paths in fields such as the arts, architecture, aviation and transportation, computer and information technology, media and communications, film industry, healthcare, law practice, law enforcement, education, oil and gas, veterinary science, manufacturing, hospitality, and construction.
This program encourages students to begin thinking about and planning for their futures before entering high school.
Throughout the day, students participated in engaging career workshops led by professionals from a wide range of occupations - many of whom are proud SE alumni.
The event also included sessions on interview techniques, social media awareness, and professional readiness, along with remarks from a motivational speaker.
