It’s almost summer and with summer comes the heat. As June begins, the heat rises every day. When the heat rises, it makes being outside hard to do because of it. As the summer progresses, we will see all ages of people outside; playing, gardening, running, walking, and even just sitting around. The people will range from kids as young as two years old to older adults as old as 70 plus years old. When people are outside most of them forget to drink water or something to keep them from dehydrating. Being in the hot weather peoples body tends to keep themselves cool mainly by sweating, but as the body sweats the body is losing fluids, which causes dehydration.
Dehydration does not have an age limit for its condition. All ages can be affected by dehydration, which is caused by not having enough fluid in the body. All ages must be reminded to drink plenty of fluids so that dehydration does not happen. When you are out, make sure you drink plenty of fluids and make sure our kids and elders are getting plenty of fluids as well. This goes for our elders that are in the nursing home also. A lot of them may not be able to go outside but that doesn’t mean they cannot be affected by dehydration either. Heat is not outside only. Heat can be effective inside as well. Take the time to visit with our elders in the nursing home and help make sure that they are getting plenty of fluids.
