Texas man dies from wreck near Mead

Madill resident injured in Bryan County crash

A Whitesboro, Texas, man died from injuries received in a crash Saturday near Mead, the Oklahoma Highway Patrol said.

The Collin County, Texas, Medical Examiner’s Office notified OHP that 21-year-old Paul Crabtree died after being flown by air ambulance to Medical City Plano in Plano, Texas, after the accident that happened at 2:51 p.m. at Highway 70 and Streetman Road about one mile west of Mead.

According to OHP, Crabtree, who was driving a Ford F-150, was stopped at the stop sign on Streetman Road northbound when he began to make a left turn and his pickup was struck on the driver’s side door by a Toyota Tundra driven by 26-year-old Emilee Janicke of Wichita, Kansas.

Janicke was not injured and a passenger in her pickup, 24-year-old Jacob Staashelm, also of Wichita, was taken to AllianceHealth in Durant where he was treated and released for minor injuries.

Failure to yield by Crabtree was cited in the OHP report as the cause of the crash and Crabtree was not wearing a seat belt.

Trooper James Reinecker, with assistance by Trooper Bobby Davis, investigated the accident. West Bryan County Fire-Rescue and Bryan County EMS assisted at the scene.

In other accidents, a Madill resident was injured in a Sunday crash at State Highway 78 and Fort McCulloch Road about four miles northwest of Durant, according to OHP.

Twenty-one-year-old Alivia Robbins was taken by Bryan County EMS to Texoma Medical Center after the 3:13 p.m. crash. She was listed in stable condition with injuries to upper extremities at the time of the OHP report.

According to OHP, the crash happened when a a 16-yearold Durant girl drove a Nissan Sentra from a driveway to make a left turn and was struck by Robbins’ Ford Fiesta that was traveling eastbound on Highway 78. The teen was not injured and failure to yield to oncoming traffic was cited in the report as the cause of the accident.

Both drivers wore seat belts. Trooper Brycen Collins investigated with assistance by Trooper Bobby Davis. The Durant Fire Department and Bryan County EMS assisted at the scene.

In other emergency calls, a dog died during a house fire in Durant Saturday and the cause of the fire is under investigation, according to the Durant Fire Department.

Durant firefighters were dispatched at 6:34 p.m. to 626 S. Second Ave. and upon arrival, smoke was emitting from the eaves and flames were visible on one side of the house, according to a DFD report. A woman told a firefighter that a puppy was still inside a room that was on fire.

Firefighters put out the fire that was contained to a couple of rooms and upon a search of the house, the dog was found deceased underneath a pile of insulation and drywall, the report stated.

The fire caused approximately $40,000 damage to the home and contents valued at $75,000. The Choctaw Fire Marshall was contacted to investigate a claim that someone had started the fire, according to the report.

Firefighters hosed down a grass fire caused by fireworks on July 3. Firefighters were dispatched at 8:35 p.m. to 977 Simons Road and upon arrival, a pasture was on fire and they put out the fire using about 50 gallons of water, according to a DFD report.
