Southeastern Oklahoma State University assistant professor of accounting and finance Dr. Arthur Tran was named the winner of the “Best Paper” award at the Academy of Business Research Fall Conference in Biloxi, Miss., this month.

The Academy of Business Research is an international society of scholars and practitioners. In the last decade, ABR has had participants from all 50 states and 49 different countries.

Tran’s paper focused on how local, community banks help reduce lending discrimination against minority borrowers by using soft information. This is a unique value that community banks bring to their communities that large, national banks do not.

Dr. Tran joined the faculty of the John Massey School of Business in 2023 serving as an Assistant Professor of Finance in the Department of Accounting and Finance. His research area of emphasis is finance and community banking.

Dr. Tran is a long-time Texan and Oklahoman who completed his Ph.D. at Texas Tech University and earned his BSBA and his MBA from the University of Central Missouri.
