Two people were killed in a fiery crash involving a car and a semi truck in Calera Monday morning, Calera Police said.
Assistant Police Chief T. J. White said the accident happened at about 8:30 a.m. in the southbound lanes of Highway 69/75 when the semi collided with a car that became stuck underneath the truck’s trailer and then burst into flames.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation and the car may have been broken down on the side of the road at the time of the collision.
The Durant Fire Department responded and they assisted Calera Fire-Rescue with putting out the fire, according to a DFD report.
White said it took all day to get the vehicles separated and that the victims, who had not been identified at press time, will have autopsies by the Oklahoma Medical Examiner’s Office.
The truck driver was not injured.
The Bryan County Sheriff’s Offi ce, Oklahoma Highway Patrol and Choctaw Nation Police were among agencies who assisted at the scene.
The Oklahoma Highway Patrol Traffic Homicide Unit is assisting in the investigation.
