Veterans of Foreign Wars has district meeting

On May 2, members of various VFW Posts of District 4 gathered in Durant’s Post 3916 to take care of organizational business, partake of a delicious lunch, and enjoy an afternoon of social gathering.

The event began when James Patterson, District Commander, introduced those at the head table.

He welcomed, Heidi Teeter, State Adjutant Quartermaster, Frank Matek, Department Senior Vice President, Brian Cooper, Post 3916 Commander/ District 4 Quartermaster, and Diane Story, District Auxiliary President.

Patterson took this opportunity to recognize winners of the Voice of Democracy, Patriot Pen, and First Responders . The winner of the District and State Contest “ Voice of Democracy,” Lydia Bullard, presented her essay and had everyone in an emotional state as she read it. These contests are done each year giving the young students the opportunity to express their ideas regarding patriotism and America. Winners were presented with a check and certificate.

Following this moving portion of the meeting, members and guests were invited to participate in a delicious meal. While enjoying their meal, door prizes were given which added to the gathering.

Since the Post’s meeting is a closed business meeting, the ladies adjourned to another room and held their Auxiliary meeting. The closed meeting entailed the election of officers and other items that needed to be discussed and voted upon.

The Durant Post 3916 meets on the first Thursday of each month and invites anyone eligible and interested to join them. The next meeting will be June 4 at 6:30 pm at the Post at 123 S. 2nd Street in Durant. A meal is provided.
