Woman stabbed in the back

A woman was stabbed in the back Monday at a 206 W. Elm St. home, according to the Durant Fire Department.

Firefighters, along with police and EMS were dispatched to the house at 5:01 p.m. and when they arrived, there was a 46-year-old woman standing on the porch and she had blood coming from her upperleft back area, according to a Durant Fire Department report.

The report stated she appeared to be in a great amount of pain and was taking short breaths. A neighbor was putting pressure on the wound with a rag. Firefighter Tyler Davis removed the rag and cut some of her clothing off which revealed she had a puncture wound approximately an inch wide on her left upper back.

The woman said she had been stabbed with a switchblade.

According to the report, the wound was not actively bleeding and firefighters were concerned she had a punctured lung but there was nothing that revealed air coming from the wound.

The wound was covered with gauze and firefighters assisted Bryan County EMS with loading her into an ambulance.

Durant Police said the suspect in the stabbing is a tribal member so the case was turned over to the Choctaw Nation Lighthorse Police for investigation.
