Two people were killed in separate traffic accidents Sunday and Monday, the Oklahoma Highway Patrol said.
Sixty-four-year-old Melvin D. Womack of Hendrix was killed at approximately 3:15 a.m. Monday, and 64-year-old Betty J. Pierce of Mead died at about 5:45 a.m. Sunday, according to OHP.
OHP said Womack was driving southbound on Hendrix Road near River Road when his vehicle crossed the center of the road before departing to the left and striking a ditch which caused the vehicle to overturn onto its passenger side.
The report stated that Womack was not wearing a seat belt.
Pierce was traveling westbound on Highway 70 east of Leavenworth Trail Road when her vehicle departed the roadway to the left, struck a culvert and a fence and then caught on fire, according to OHP. The report stated Pierce was wearing a seat belt.
OHP also investigated two fatal crashes last week.
On July 14, 38-year-old Timothy B. Steely of Milburn was killed while operating a motorcycle at 5:30 a.m. on Highway 78 west of Silo Road when his bike travelled off the left side of the roadway on a curve and then struck a sign support, a small tree and a culvert, according to OHP.
Nineteen-year-old Tristan J. Nunez of Durant was killed at approximately 1:50 a.m. July 16 when his vehicle departed the right side of the roadway while traveling at a high rate of speed on Highway 78 south of Highway 78. The report stated the vehicle struck a fence and rolled onto its side and Nunez, who was not wearing a seat belt, was ejected.
