Green Eggs and Hamlet – the student literary journal at Southeastern Oklahoma State University – has been recognized with a Superior rating in the 2024 Recognizing Excellence in Art and Literary Magazines (REALM) Awards sponsored by the National Council of Teachers of English (NCTE).

The City of Durant has designated April as Autism Awareness and Acceptance Month and Vice Mayor Mike Simulescu read a proclamation during last week’s city council meeting. Board members of The Owen Foundation were present for the announcement.

Feeding Hope Executive Director Keri Juarez serves food Feb. 13 at Grace Baptist Church and also shown is Kris Simpson, a volunteer with Durant First United Methodist Church. Normally, Feeding Hope serves at Keithley Park on Northeast Third Avenue, but when it’s cold, they serve at Grace Baptist Church. Feeding Hope said 188 meals were served that night. Feeding Hope Executive Director Keri Juarez says her struggles in life are a part of God’s way of preparing her to help others. The organization, previously called Families Feeding Families, has been providing meals to the community since 2004.

Bryan County Retired Educators make a new year’s resolution

The first meeting of 2025 for Bryan County Retired Educators was celebrated on Main Street at Integration Station café. Members joined in resolving to continue asking the Oklahoma State Legislature to grant a Cost of Living Adjustment (COLA) to our state’s retired teachers.
