Fortnightly Club makes donation to Child Nutrition Services

Fortnightly Club of Durant recently presented a donation check to the Durant Independent School District Child Nutrition Services as their “National Day of Service” project. Fortnightly Club was organized in Durant in 1902 and federated in 1903 as a member of the General Federation of Women’s Clubs.

The Durant Community Facilities Authority in a meeting last Friday approved a final round of projects from sales tax revenue from a tax passed 20 years ago that expired in September.
The American Locomotive Company (ALCO) 4014 “Big Boy” steam locomotive built in 1941 crosses the Blue River Bridge at Armstrong after leaving Durant Sunday afternoon. The locomotive attracted many photographers, train enthusiasts and the public. Big Boy last visited Durant in 2021 and this year’s visit was a part of Union Pacific’s Heartland of America Tour. On Aug. 28, Union Pacific launched its 10-state “Big Boy” No. 4014 Heartland of America Tour offering the general public and media an opportunity to witness history in motion as the legendary steam engine chugs its way across the Midwest and South, including Oklahoma.
