Juniors and seniors can apply to serve as House pages

The Oklahoma House of Representatives High School Page Program is now accepting applications for the Second Regular Session of the 59th Legislature.

Any Oklahoma high school junior or senior can apply.

I love the page program as it gives students from my House District 19 a chance to view the legislative process up close and gain an idea of what it is like working in state government. Some former pages have even been inspired to run for public office after serving in this capacity. At the very least, they leave with an appreciation of what it takes to get an idea turned into law and how necessary it is to work with other lawmakers to see legislation accomplished that does good for the people back home. Pages are assigned Monday through Thursday during one week of the legislative session, which runs from the first Monday in February through the last Friday in May. Students serving as a page join students from across the state who work in the House Chamber during daily session, assist representatives and House staff with tasks, and take part in the House Page Mock Legislature on the floor of the House Chamber.

During their time at the Capitol, pages stay in local hotels, and chaperones are proved for all students. They are transported to and from the Capitol daily and are closely supervised at all times.

In the past, I’ve had many terrific young people serve as pages for my office, and I hope many new ones will apply for the program for 2024.

Any interested high school junior or senior from my district can go to https://former.okhouse.gov/ Pages/ to submit an application. Or they can contact my office at (405) 557-7382 for more information.

The Second Regular Session of the 59th Legislature begins Mon., Feb. 5, 2024.

Justin Humphrey serves District 19 in the Oklahoma House of Representatives. His district includes Choctaw and Pushmataha counties and parts of Atoka and Bryan counties.
