Silo takes Kingston consolation; Lady Dogs win Tushka crown

Silo 61, Atoka 56 (boys)

Sophomore Sam Mendenall came off the bench to nail three consecutive three pointers to ignite a big first half flurry as Silo took a double-digit lead before holding off Class 3A’s ninth-ranked Atoka for the Kingston tournament consolation crown.

Daxter Thomas added a pair of treys and Charlie Gardner scored nine of his game-high 24 points in the second frame as well to stake the Rebels to a 31-22 edge.

Atoka rallied to tie the game in the fourth stanza, but Silo cashed in at the free throw line by hitting 11 of 16 to ice the victory to even their record at 6-6.

Three players reached double figures led by Gardner’s 24 as Mendenall chipped in a season-best 14 points and Thomas scored 11.

Keisean Shields tossed in 24 points as well for Atoka.

Calera 54, Tushka 51 (girls)

Emma Daniel and Taylynn Conder combined for 16 points in the final quarter to spur a dramatic late flurry as Calera erased an 11-point deficit in the fourth quarter to win the Tushka Ameri-State Bank Classic.

Conder also pumped in all eight Lady Bulldog points in the third frame to keep them within striking distance for the late comeback.

Daniel tossed in a pair of three pointers and notched nine in the final frame as Conder contributed seven while Calera reeled off a 20-6 scoring edge.

For the game Conder tallied 21 points as Daniel also reached double figures with 13. Carlaysia Brown had eight, Macy Strahan scored six, Kenzie Condor had four and Amariah McLaughlin two.

Valliant 45, Rock Creek 44 (boys)

Rock Creek raced to a 12-3 lead after one stanza as Anthony Nichols and Blake Barrett poured in four apiece, and was still in front 22-14 at intermission before watching the Class 3A 13th ranked Bulldogs rally to capture the Tushka Tournament title.

Valliant narrowed the gap to 34-30 at the end of three frames and outscored the Mustangs 15-10 in the fourth.

Nichols led the Mustangs’ scoring arsenal with 15 points as Barrett also reached double figures with 11. Zaiden Craige had eight, J.T. Talley scored six and Colby Hopkins added four.
