Silo falls to eventual state champ Washington

Facing off against a senior-laden two-time defending state champion squad wasn’t the ideal Class 3A state tournament opener for Silo as the Rebels dropped an 11-1 verdict to the eventual champion Washington last week.

The Rebels end their 3A debut campaign with a 25-9 overall record.

It was an inauspicious start for the Rebels as the Warriors capitalized on the three Silo miscues in the opening stanza on the way to a commanding 7-0 advantage.

Silo struggled early against Washington ace lefty Tristin Babbitt, finally scratching its first hit on a Gabe Hernandez double in the third stanza and Zane Sander followed with an RBI triple to left that plated the squad’s lone run.

That proved to be two of the Rebels’ four hits in the contest with the others coming on a Sam Mendenall fourth inning single as well as a Bryce Vandenburg single in the fifth frame.

Five Rebels, including Britton Salsbury, Mendenall, Hernandez, Landon Langley and Charlie Gardner all saw action on the mound.
