After finishing second last year, Southwestern Oklahoma State grad Trey Kimzey was the top money winner as a record $64,130 was paid out at the 83rd Annual Durant PRCA Rodeo last weekend.
Kimzey wasn’t settling for second in the big money bull riding event this time around, posting a 90-point ride on the bull named Top Gun to claim the $3,074 purse.
J.R. Stratford checked in second with an 87-point ride for $2,357 with Trey Benton III posting a third place tally of 86 points to take home $1,742.
Billy Brunson claimed the award for All-Around Cowboys as he totaled $884 in tie-down and team roping.
Another big payout came in team roping as the duo of Jake Orman and Dustin Davis turned in a time of 4.1 seconds to pocket $1,849 apiece for first place. The pair of Dustin Egusquiza and Levi Lord placed second just behind at 4.2 seconds for $1,607 each with J.T. Bland and Tyson Thompson grabbing $1,366 apiece with a run of 4.4 seconds.
Isaiah Na’auao-Asing had a spectacular time of 3.8 seconds in winning the steer wrestling competition for the $1,832 money win. Riley Duvall, Clay Guthrie and Trisyn Kalawaia all clocked in at 3.9 seconds and pocketed $1,354 each.
Madison McCaffity was the barrel racing champion, crossing the line in 15.78 seconds for the $1,794 winning prize. Katelyn Hobbie checked in second at 15.80 seconds for $1,538 while Chloe Gray ended third at 15.87 seconds for $1,282.
Tie-down roping co-winners were Kason Dyer and Ryan Jarrett as they tied for the top slot in 8.1 seconds for $1,607 apiece. Tom Crouse and Pax Vogel each posted a time of 8.3 seconds to tie for third as well with $1,158 in winnings.
Saddle bronc riding was another busy event with Wade Sundell claiming the top spot for the second straight year in the Durant PRCA event, notching 85 points aboard the horse Sky Fall to take home $1,359. Weston Patterson posted 81.5 points for second place and $1,029 with Sterling Crawley capturing third place with 81 points and $741.
The bareback riding victor was Kash Martin with 84 points on the horse Sober Sunday for the $1,117 total. Gavin French ended second with 83 points for $846 as Wacey Schalla had 81 points for third place and $609.
