A man died from injuries received during an altercation in the Choctaw Casino and Resort Sky Tower parking garage, Sunday evening authorities said.
The victim was identified as 51-year-old Phillip Wingfield of Atoka who died from stab wounds, according to a court document. Twenty-year-old Antonio Latham, Gunter, Texas, was arrested and charged Monday with first-degree murder - deliberate intent.
The charge document states that Latham stabbed Wingfield in the head. Choctaw Nation Lighthorse Police Department and the Bryan County District Attorney’s Office requested the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation to assist with the investigation.
“The OSBI would like to thank the Choctaw Nation Lighthorse Police Department and Bryan County District Attorney’s Office for assisting us with this investigation,” OSBI said, in a news release.
“We are protecting Oklahoma one partnership at a time.”
In other news, 38-year-old Kenneth T. Davis of Calera was injured in a crash Tuesday on Highway 70 about two miles west of Bennington, the Oklahoma Highway Patrol said.
Davis was driving a Mack truck eastbound at approximately 9 a.m. when a tire blew out and the truck departed the road to the left and struck trees.
Davis was flown by AirVac to Medical City, Plano, Texas, to be treated for arm and head injuries. He was listed in stable condition at the time of the OHP report.
He was pinned in the truck for approximately 45 minutes until being freed by Bennington firefighters who used an emergency extraction tool, according to OHP. He was wearing a seat belt.
Trooper Brycen Collins investigated the accident, assisted by Trooper CL Parkins. The Bokchito Police Department, Bryan County Sheriff’s Office and Bryan County EMS also assisted at the scene.
The Durant Fire Department assisted the Caddo Volunteer Fire Department with a car fire June 9 at 970 Hale Road.
According to a DFD report, when Durant firefighters arrived early that afternoon, Caddo firefighters were extinguishing the fire. The homeowner had moved the vehicle out from the carport into the yard prior to Durant firefighters arriving and the home did not catch on fire.
Firefighters investigated to make sure siding on the home was not on fire and the fire was contained to the carport.
