Rhett Akins joins Choctaw Labor Day fest concert line up

The concert schedule for the 2024 Choctaw Labor Day Festival has changed. CMA Award-winner Mark Chesnutt, initially announced as a performer, was sidelined when he required emergency surgery. The Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma wishes him a complete and speedy recovery.

Country music hit maker Rhett Akins will perform on Saturday, August 31 at 7:30 p.m. at Tvshka Homma.

The rest of the Saturday evening schedule remains unchanged, including Rodney Atkins, the Joey Green Band, and The Close.

As a singer and songwriter Rhett Akins has had 35 No. 1 singles. His signature song “That Ain’t My Truck,” which he sang and co-wrote, became his first No. 1 hit. His song “Honey Bee” became the highest selling digital debut by a country male solo artist.

He’s written chart toppers for many other artists, including Blake Shelton, Luke Bryan, Jason Aldean, Dustin Lynch, John Pardi, and his son Thomas Rhett.

The music industry has also taken note of his talent. In 2010, Akins was named the No. 4 Billboard Country Songwriter. The following year, BMI named him Songwriter of the Year, and again in 2014. In 2018 he was named Songwriter of the Year, and in 2019 named the first Songwriter of the Decade by the Academy of Country Music. In 2021 Akins was inducted into the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame.

Concert attendance, like the rest of the festival, is free and open to the public. Lawn chairs and picnic blankets are welcome. Festival schedules will continually update; for information, visit https:// chocta.ws/ld-events.
