Bryan County Free Fair begins Tuesday

The Bryan County Free Fair is scheduled for September 3-7. With the fair being only a few weeks away, it’s time to start getting your canning, quilts, crafts, and chickens ready for the county fair. This is a traditional county event that the entire family can participate in. Persons of all ages have the opportunity to enter fair exhibits: 4-H, FFA, Kiddie Corner and open division for adults and youth.

To kick-off the beginning of the fair, the annual “Fairest of the Fair” Pageant will take place on a Saturday evening on August 24 at 7:00 p.m. at the Durant Middle School Auditorium. Contestants must attend a Bryan County High School and must be a freshman, sophomore, junior or senior. The winner will receive a $500 scholarship. To enter, all contestants must complete an official pageant application along with a photo. The pageant applications will be available at the OSU Extension Office. Deadline is August 21. The 4-H and FFA Tractor Driving Contest will held on Tuesday, September 3, starting at 2 p.m. in the Expo Building at the Fairgrounds.

Entry Day for the fair with the exception of livestock and poultry is scheduled for Wednesday, September 4, starting at 8 a.m. until 6 p.m. Fair exhibits can be entered at these locations: 4-H & Kiddie Corner Exhib-its Small Room, Community Center Home Art Department Exhibits – Large Room, Community Center Open, 4-H, and FFA Horticulture, Agriculture, Agronomy and 4-H Wildlife Exhibits - Haggard Hall The judging of all fair exhibits will take place Thursday, September 5, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. The Community Building and Haggard Hall will be closed during judging. To view all the pretty ribbons you won, these buildings will reopen to the public after 4 p.m. and close at 9 p.m.

In the Home Art Department, Grand Champion and Reserve Grand rosettes will be awarded in Textiles, Quilts, Foods and Crafts divisions. A Best of Show, overall award will be presented to the most outstanding fair exhibit in those divisions.

This special award will be given in adult and youth division: “The Best Wheat” Bread Making Contest, Make sure to check out the guidelines for this special award listed in the fair book.

Entries for poultry and rabbits will be accepted on Wednesday, September 4 from 5-9 p.m. and Thursday, September 5 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Judging of poultry will take place starting at 4:30 pm on Thursday. The poultry barn will be closed during judging.

The Bryan County Fair Board announces a new time to release all fair exhibits and animals at 6 p.m. Saturday evening, September 7.

Super Salsa Contest, 2 p.m., Community Building, entries due at 1:30 p.m.

Ag Olympics, 1 p.m., Outdoor Arena BBQ Cook-off Turn-in Time, 4 p.m., Community Center Kitchen BBQ Judging, 6 p.m. New: Hot Dog Eating Contest, 6 p.m., BBQ Alley Carnival Opens, 6 p.m. Live Entertainment, 8 p.m.., Outdoor Stage New: All fair exhibits and animals will be released, 6 p.m.
