Calera blasts Colbert in softball district opener

The Calera Lady Bulldogs raced to a 9-0 lead through three innings and cruised by rival Colbert, 11-3, in District 2A-8 softball action last week.

Coach Randy Ellevold’s group pushed across three runs in the first frame, five in the second and another in the third to take complete command against the Lady Leopards.

That was more than enough offensive support for Auhnesty Maytubby, who fired all five innings of the run rule triumph, allowing three runs (one earned) on three hits while also posting eight strikeouts and one walk.

The Lady Bulldogs utilized 11 hits, all of which were singles, as eight of the nine starters in the lineup all produced at least one.

Maytubby was the catalyst on the offensive side as well with two hits and drove in three. Taylynn Conder and Chloe Damron also pitched in two hits while Taryn Niblett, Tori Allmon, Jeslyn O’Dell, Makenna Owen and Aaliyah Wesley all had one.

Tally Rowland, Lauren Polston and Kat Fisher had hits for Colbert with Rowland’s going for a double.

Caddo Lady Bruins

The top-ranked Lady Bruins smashed Rattan, 10-0, in their first game of the week before toppling Broken Bow by a 7-2 count.

Brylee Daniel fired a two-hit shutout in the four-inning run rule against Rattan to notch the pitching win.

Jaycie and Jordyn Nichols each doubled for Caddo with Jaycie going three for three at the plate and driving in three. Daniel also had a hit that drove in two.

Against Broken Bow, Rylan Peevyhouse got the pitching start in the circle and went the complete game on a fivehitter, yielding two unearned runs while striking out five Lady Savages.

Caddo plated three runs in the first frame and three more in the fourth to take command while making the most of seven singles. Peevyhouse had two of those and drove in four with Jaycie Nichols also pitching in two hits.

Silo Rebels

Dominant pitching was the story of the week for the Class 2A top-ranked Rebels as they posted five complete game victories to improve to 10-0 on the season.

The first of those came against Latta as Braden Hill twirled a two-hit shutout in the 5-0 Silo win. Jeret House and Bryce Vandenburg had two hits apiece.

Sam Mendenall fired a four-hitter in a 6-1 triumph over Class A top-rated Rattan. House spurred the offense with three hits, including a home run, and drove in three. Landon Langley also notched two hits.

Making their annual trip to Missouri, the Rebels blanked Class 3A state tournament squad Licking, 3-0, in the opening game behind a three-hit shutout from Gabe Hernandez, who fanned nine batters and walked just one. House and Mendenall each had two hits with House driving in two of the three runs.

Langley got the start in game four and went all five innings of an 11-1 run rule over Exeter, Missouri, yielding only four hits with nine strikeouts. Cannon Atwood posted a double, triple and drove in four runs. Zane Sander, Mendenall, House, Vandenburg and Hill chipped in multi-hit games as well.

Sophomore Blane Beauchamp was the starter in the Missouri finale and dominated in a two-hitter, striking out 11 for the 12-1 triumph against Washburn Southwest. Sander and Hill tallied two hits apiece for the offense.
