Caddo Lady Bruins claim Durant tourney title

It’s tough to lose if you never allow a run and that was the case for the topranked Caddo Lady Bruins as they swept to the Durant Invitational championship last weekend at the Multi-Sports Complex.

Coach Dustin McKay’s club went a perfect 5-0 on the weekend, throwing shutouts against Wilson, Duncan, Idabel, Hilldale and Valliant. That impressive run propelled them to a 21-2 record overall.

Brylee Daniel got the pitching start in the tournament opener and fired a three-hit shutout in the seven-inning affair as Caddo took advantage of five hits, including a pair of Rylan Peevyhouse doubles.

They opened things up a bit more in game two for a 9-0 victory against Class 5A Duncan, fueled by Jaycie Nichols’ three hits which included a triple. Peevyhouse tossed the five-inning masterpiece by yielding only one hit along with five strikeouts.

Jordyn Nichols was the offensive catalyst during a 12-0 smacking of Idabel, driving in four runs that included a three-run homer. Peevyhouse homered and drove in three with Jaycie Nichols and Presley Beck adding two hits each.

Caddo won a tight 3-0 outing over Hilldale, scoring twice in the fourth and once in the fifth inning.

Peevyhouse took the circle again and twirled a fourhit shutout, fanning four in the process. Beck and Daniel posted two hits each and Jordyn Nichols chipped in a homer.

It was all Lady Bruins in the title matchup against Valliant as they ran away to a 12-0 win after scoring in every inning while pounding out 10 hits.

Caddo got another gem from Peevyhouse as she scattered three hits and fanned two over four innings.

Jordyn Nichols smacked three hits and had two batted in. Sister Jaycie Nichols knocked in three runs while finishing with two hits and two runs scored.

Silo Lady Rebels

The Lady Rebels recorded five wins during their own tournament on the way to a runner-up finish, only losing to perennial power Washington.

Silo downed Cyril twice (11-2 and 2-1) as well as Dibble (12-0), Ripley (3-1) and Red Oak (2-1).

Timber Hensley fanned 10 in the Ripley victory and twirled a six-hit complete game in the narrow Cyril triumph. The senior then took the loss in a 2-1 nailbiter against Washington, striking out seven with two runs and six hits allowed.

Sophomore Kami Wilson recorded pitching wins against Cyril, Dibble and Red Oak, scattering 13 hits over the three victories.

Silo scored three in the fifth to rally past Ripley, sparked by Connie Tubby’s two-run double off the centerfield wall. Kamrey Hendricks had the big game with three hits in the highscoring Cyril win.

Hensley homered and doubled while also scoring three times against Dibble.

Jayci Webb’s squeeze bunt in the fourth inning gave the Lady Rebels the lead they would never relinquish.

Calera Bulldogs

The sixth-ranked Bulldogs rolled to their own tournament finale with shutout wins against Rock Creek and Roff before settling for runner-up honors against powerful Rattan.

Cody Langley tossed a complete game one-hitter in a 9-0 thumping of Rock Creek, striking out 11 and walking two. Zaiden Craige posted three hits while Logan Bumgarner, Darren Johnson and Hazyn Applegate finished with two apiece.

Craige was the pitching stalwart during a 4-0 whitewashing of Roff, allowing only three hits with five strikeouts in the complete game victory.

Jaron Varner had three hits, including a double to fuel the offensive charge.

Things didn’t go near as well in the championship despite the Bulldogs claiming a 3-1 edge through three stanzas. Talon Rose had a hit and drove in two.

Silo Rebels

Coach Eddie Jeffcoat’s Rebels saw their winning streak snapped at 16 in a narrow loss to fellow power Fort Cobb-Broxton last Friday but rebounded to knock off Wister and claim third place in their own tournament.

That culminated a 4-1 week for Silo keyed by a deep pitching staff.

Senior Braden Hill picked up a pair of mound triumphs, the first of which came in a 7-5 comeback victory at third-ranked Byng in which he twirled three and two-third innings of two-hit shutout relief.

Landon Langley provided the tying hit during a fourrun seventh inning and Cannon Atwood drove in two with a single for the ultimate game winner.

Nolan Northcott recorded the pitching victory in a 3-2 triumph against Asher, tossing five innings and allowing two unearned runs on two hits. Aiden McCarty chipped in two frames of scoreless relief for the save. Bryce Vandenburg notched the go ahead RBI single in the fifth.

The Rebels broke a 3-3 deadlock with Red Oak with a seven-run sixth inning outburst in the tournament opener, spurred by home runs from Vandenburg, Sam Mendenall and Jeret House.

Hill notched that complete game pitching win, scattering five hits while striking out five.

Mendenall was the pitching victor in a 7-4 victory against Wister as the Rebels got two hits from Langley. Atwood drove in three runs and Zane Sander contributed two RBI.

Calera Lady Bulldogs

After dropping an opening round contest to Hartshorne in the tournament opener at Caney last week, the Lady Bulldogs bounced back emphatically with four straight wins before bowing out to Class B top-ranked Stuart in a 3-2 nail biter.

That run followed up a 13-8 triumph over Rock Creek in a shootout last Tuesday.

Against Rock Creek, Taibree Melton and Taylynn Conder each had massive days at the plate, posting four hits apiece while also each driving in three runs. Melton had two doubles while Conder chipped in one two-bagger.

Calera fell by a 5-2 count to Hartshorne to start the Caney tournament but avenged that loss on Saturday by downing the Lady Miners 7-3 thanks to a fourrun seventh inning flurry. Conder and Kaira Beller had run-scoring doubles in the late outburst.

The Lady Bulldogs also blasted Pittsburg (14-0), toppled Atoka (7-3) and edged a solid Caney squad (5-3) to reach the tournament semifinals, led by the pitching combination of Auhnesty Maytubby and Laynie Paddock.
