The Durant Lady Lions built a big lead early but saw it slip away in a 7-5 loss to Collinsville last week that snapped their string of home regional tournaments at 10.
Coach Jimmie Wyrick’s troops will have to go on the road for the Class 5A regional next week for the first time since 2013 when they visit Pryor.
In addition to the Collinsville contest, Durant closed out the district season with a 2-1 win over Shawnee but also dropped a pair of non-league battles with Latta (2-0) and Lindsay (4-1) on the road.
Runs weren’t a problem early against Collinsville as the Lady Lions pushed across four tallies in the first two frames but after that managed only four runs the rest of the week.
Raelynn Clark and Lylith Harris had hits to produce a first inning run and then cashed in hits by Korbyn Robinson, Rachel Spencer and Addi Pratt in the three-run flurry in the second stanza. Spencer singled and scored the team’s final run in the fourth inning.
Pratt and Spencer had two hits apiece of the team’s seven in the game. Clark, Harris and Robinson all chipped in one.
Emma Sherrer didn’t allow a single earned run but was the tough luck losing hurler in scattering six hits and striking out three.
Durant never got anything going against Latta and was limited to just four hits by Lindsay, although they took a 1-0 first inning lead on a Sherrer single that scored Anslee Morse, who led off with a hit as well.
Sherrer finished with two hits while Harris contributed one.
In the league finale, the Lady Lions rode another strong effort from Sherrer, who went all seven innings while yielding one unearned run on five hits. She also struck out five.
The Lady Lions posted six hits, fueled by Sherrer’s pair that included a triple. Morse also had two hits with Pratt and Spencer adding one apiece.
Durant will be back on the road to the Bixby Festival at the end of this week.
