Car crashes into front doors of newly remodeled Love’s

A car plowed through the front doors of the newly remodeled Love’s store at 524 W. Main St. on Oct. 1.

The Durant Fire Department was among agencies that responded at 2:21 p.m.

According to the report, an elderly woman who had been driving the car appeared confused about what had happened.

An employee was hit and had pain in her lower leg and abdomen and she was taken to the hospital by Bryan County EMS to be treated for minor injuries.

The woman driving the car also was taken to the hospital to be checked for injuries, according to the DFD report.

In other emergency calls, Durant firefighters were dispatched at 1:19 a..m. Oct. 6 to Main Street Laundromat at 1101 W. Main St. about a fire in the office.

When firefighters arrived, flames were visible through the windows on the south side of the building and firefighter Tyler Davis broke the glass on a side door to make entry because the doors were locked, according to the report.

The fire was in a room and after firefighters extinguished it, they discovered it had been a pile of clothes on fire. Video footage revealed smoke began accumulating in the ceiling area at 11:38 the evening before and flames erupted at approximately 1:18 the following morning, the report stated.

The cause of the fire, which was contained to a pile of clothes and a folding table, was undetermined. Damage was estimated at $1,100.

Firefighters hosed down a rubbish fire at approximately 4:15 p.m. Oct. 6 at 513 W. Arkansas St. According to DFD reports, a pile of tires and a fence were on fire which spread to corner of the house before it was extinguished.
