Friends of the Library sponsoring brown-bag luncheon

Bestselling mystery author Kris Lackey will speak at a Brown-Bag Luncheon at noon on October 24 at Donald W. Reynolds Library, 1515 W. Main St. The informal luncheon is sponsored by Friends of the Reynolds Library. Following a presentation about his books, Lackey will sell and autograph copies of his novels.

Those who purchase copies at the luncheon will benefit from a special wholesale price.

Lackey, who lives in Norman, writes the award-winning Chickasaw Nation Mysteries, which are set in Oklahoma. Chickasaw Lighthorse Police Sergeant Bill Maytubby and Johnston County Deputy Hannah Bond solve mysteries that involve events in various areas of Chickasaw country.

His debut novel, Nail’s Crossing, was a USA Today-bestseller. It follows the two sleuths as they seek the killer of a young woman whose buzzardravaged- body is found in a remote part of the Nation. The investigation leads into Louisiana’s bayou country but ends at Nail’s Crossing, an old stage stand east of the Blue River in Bryan County.

Later novels in the Chickasaw Nation series are Greasy Bend, Butcher Pen Road, and Ten-Acre Rock.

Lackey is Professor Emeritus in English at the University of New Orleans and has published literary short fiction in The Missouri Review and other magazines.

Brown-Bag Luncheons are held twice a year at the Reynolds Library, with attendees eating sack lunches they’ve brought while listening to an author-presenter. The Friends provide water and cookies for everyone.
