Three Valley Museum director speaks at OMA Conference

Nancy Ferris, Director of the Three Valley Museum, spoke recently at the Oklahoma Museum Association’s annual conference held this year in Idabel at the Museum of the Red River.

More than 250 museum officials from all over the state gathered to exchange new ideas and learn techniques used by museums across the nation on how to properly archive artifacts and preserve history, both oral and visual.

“The OMA is a wonderful resource for all the museums across our state,” Ferris said. “This organization strives to promote new ideas and trends in the industry that will keep history alive and interesting to those who visit our facilities.

“OMA is a boots on the ground advocate for small museums. It offers avenues for grants, and stays abreast of the decisions of lawmakers who are responsible for funding preservation projects.”

Ferris led a session at the conference which offered attendees a look inside the production of the notable and well received “Journey Story” series held each January at the Three Valley Museum. She spoke of ways in which the topics are chosen and how presenters are selected. Ferris gave a brief history of Durant and presented Peanut Rounders from the Peanut Shoppe to each in attendance.
