Mother of one of four teens killed in 2020 dies

The mother of one of four Durant High School athletes killed in May 2020 when their car was hit by a drunk driver passed away this week and her celebration of life service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 16 at Bloomer Sullivan Arena.

Sabrina Ford died from what reportedly may have been an allergic reaction. She was the mother of Hunter Ford, 14, who along with Fernando Flores, 15, Kaleb Foster, 17, and Jack Sarver, 15, died when the car they were in was hit by a drunk driver driving at a high rate of speed on Main Street Memorial Day weekend 2020. The driver has since been convicted and is serving a federal prison sentence.

Ford’s daughter, Jaylin Ford, made the announcement Monday on social media and she invited people to join celebrating her mother’s life during the Saturday service.

“Mom would have wanted her celebration of life to be just that—a celebration,” Jaylin Ford wrote. “In honor of her, we kindly request that everyone wear white. After the service, we will be hosting a lunch in the south parking lot across University. I would love for those of you who were touched by her to share stories and spend time together during this time of grief.

“For those who are unable to attend, we hope to have the service live-streamed and will share more details as they become available. Thank you for your support during this difficult time.”

Many commented on Facebook after learning of Ford’s passing.

“Sabrina, we’re all shocked and in disbelief,” wrote Geni Braudrick-Hutchings. “You were definitely one of a kind. We didn’t have to know you well to know you loved the Lord, you had true character, and you loved and cared for others.

“You left a true legacy. A legacy to love God first and others second, and to show that love through action. You were the definition of having true faith in unimaginable situations and being intentional to help others through your pain. Thank you for showing us how we should live. You are someone we should all strive to be. You will truly be missed in this world but we also know you are resting in the arms of Jesus and Hunter. We will all be praying for sweet Jaylin and the rest of your family. We all know what a huge hole your absence will leave.”
