Choctaw Nation Prosecuting Attorney’s Office holds roundtables to connect with law Enforcement partners

The Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma (CNO) Office of the Tribal Prosecutors concluded its most recent series of law enforcement roundtables between tribal, local, and state law enforcement agencies and prosecutors. Four meetings were held across the reservation, with more than 77 attendees representing more than 30 law enforcement agencies.

“We want to be good partners in our communities while supporting the tenets of tribal sovereignty,” said Mike Haggerty, Tribal Prosecutor for the Choctaw Nation. “These roundtables were a platform allowing law enforcement partners across the Choctaw reservation to discuss how justice systems can collaborate to overcome barriers to justice and public safety. The meetings provided an opportunity for open communication and mutual respect, which ultimately strengthens and protects our communities on the reservation.”

In the meetings, Haggerty discussed recent updates to CNO’s Tribal Codes and addressed ongoing challenges, along with the steps taken by the CNO Prosecuting Attorney’s Office and Lighthorse Police to address them. Agencies also discussed their challenges and networked with their law enforcement partners.
