Durant celebrated Senior Day in style on Saturday as the Lady Lions improved to 10-1 since the Christmas Break and secured a home Class 5A regional for the first time since 2008 with a 43-41 win over Pryor.
The Lions made a clean sweep as they rolled to a 60-40 victory to snap a six-game skid.
Earlier in the week, hosting Tahlequah, the Lady Lions won a low-scoring 29-22 battle while the Durant boys came up on the short end of a 61-59 verdict.
Regional tournament action is slated for next week with pairings set to be announced later this week.
Girls
The Lady Lion hopes appeared fleeting after watching Pryor put together a 14-3 spree in the second quarter for a fourpoint halftime cushion, which the visitors extended to 38-30 at the end of three periods.
Still down 41-34 with just over four minutes to play, Durant found its second wind spurred by seven fourth quarter points from Abrianna Freeman.
Iyana Wilson knotted the game on a bucket with 14.7 seconds left and following a steal, Ella Sorrels put the hosts ahead for good with just 11.3 seconds remaining.
Sorrels tallied a team-high 19 points for Durant with Freeman also reaching double digits at 12 for the game. Anslee Morse tossed in six with four from Wilson and two by Sheraya Struble.
Scoring was definitely in short supply against Tahlequah, but Durant rode strong defense to the victory.
Each team notched eight in the opening stanza with the Lady Lions pushing to a 12-11 halftime lead. It was 19-15 Durant through three frames.
Sorrels pumped in 10 as the lone Lady Lion in double figures. Wilson scored nine as did Emma Green, who connected for three treys. Freeman checked in with three.
Boys
Durant led from start to finish in the Senior Day action as they steadily pulled away for the season sweep of Pryor.
Coach Aaron George’s club was up 11-5 after one period, 27-18 at halftime and 48-28 through three stanzas after a 21-point explosion that was spurred by seven from senior Ryder Jones.
Tashaun Williams poured in 15 points to lead the Durant offensive charge as Jones also reached double figures with 11.
Carson Robinson notched nine, Jace Baily scored eight, Kolton Mason had six, Joseph Flores chipped in with four as Callaway Nabors and Landon Ringels each added two.
The Lions narrowly missed a pair of district wins on the week but couldn’t quite hold off Tahlequah in the final frame after things were knotted at 34 through three stanzas. Jones, Mason and Williams all tallied three pointers in the fourth, but Tahlequah cashed in just enough free throws in the period to seal the win.
Jones was the catalyst for Durant with 14 points while Williams and Mason contributed nine apiece. Nabors tossed in six, Baily had four, Robinson notched three and Leon Stone ended with two points.
