Durant FFA students Bailee Varner, Ava Converse, Annie Miller and Bethany Randolph visited Oak Ridge Nursing Center on Valentine’s Day to give residents goodie bags and to wish them a happy Valentine’s Day.
This was part of a community project that Durant FFA officers decided they wanted to do, according to Annie Miller, Durant FFA reporter.
“We have really been wanting to give back to the community that has given us so much,” Miller said.
“We had a chapter meeting and we got some FFA members and we made around 150 nursing home goodie bags. We just gave them out to some of the nursing home residents.”
The bags contained pink socks, Chapstick, a little Teddy Bear and a letter with a Bible verse.
Durant FFA looks forward to more opportunities to help the community.
“I am blessed to be able to call these people some of my community and I cannot wait to keep giving back to the community,” Miller said.
She said giving back better connects FFA to the community and will help make them good Future Farmers of America.
FFA has had other events throughout the school year and this week, they are participating in the Bryan County Junior Livestock Show.
“This school year, we’ve had our Ag Olympics where we have some kids come out and we all get to run around and have fun and just be kids again,” Miller said. “We have our chili dinner where we sell chili from the crack of dawn until the end of dawn.”
