Caddo girls win Class A regional, boys survive

Caddo’s girls won the Class A regional championship while the Caddo boys advanced to the area playoffs in the loser’s bracket in basketball action on Monday night in Alex.

The Class A second-ranked Lady Bruins romped past Alex, 69-31, on the road to move within one victory of a return to the state tournament. They’ll meet fifthrated Amber-Pocasset at 6 p.m. Friday in the area title tilt at Cache.

Caddo boys, which are also ranked second and now 20-4 on the season, notched a second straight regional elimination game win, bouncing back from a loss to Central Marlow, to knock out 20th ranked Hydro-Eakly, 57-34, and move on. The Bruins also knocked out Carnegie in a convincing 52-36 decision.

They will also be in action in the area tournament at Cache that was slated to start on Thursday.

Girls

The Lady Bruins sank 10 three pointers and outscored Alex by a whopping 30-6 margin from beyond the arc to cruise to the regional crown.

Coach Kolby Johnson’s unit was up 20-7 through one period fueled by 18 combined points from Jaycie Nichols and Kayden Prince. They extended the margin to 36-15 at intermission. It was more of the same after the break with Caddo notching a 13-9 scoring edge in the third frame and 20-7 again in the fourth.

Prince led all scorers in the game with 23 points, drilling four of the treys, while Nichols ended with 19 as she canned a trio of three pointers.

Belle Hookom tossed in eight, Rylan Peevyhouse scored six, Harlee Taylor had five, Braylee Malone notched four, Anna Adair contributed three and Brilee Tyson finished with one point.

Boys

Fighting back through the regional loser’s bracket, Caddo staved off elimination.

In the Carnegie contest, the Bruins bolted to a 13-4 advantage after one period and then rode a balanced attack the rest of the way.

Parker Bearden sparked the attack with 12 points as Kale Brister and Dallas Williams hit double figures as well with 11 and 10 points respectively. Noah Bacon added nine, Beck Willingham had seven, Keshawn Smith scored two and Rance Richardson ended with one.

Willingham, a freshman, exploded for 22 points in the regional consolation title victory as Caddo took complete command in the second quarter with a 19-8 scoring blitz. Brister and Bearden notched nine points apiece, Bacon scored eight, Richardson had five with Trevor Talley and Smith adding two each.
