Savage Storm upsets 13th ranked Harding

Southeastern rode a strong pitching effort from Trinity Oden and made the most of one hit, which came from Caddo product Kennedy Morgan to stun 13th ranked Harding, 1-0, in Great American Conference softball action on Saturday.

The Savage Storm victory avoided a sweep at the hands of the Lady Bison, who took the first two games of the league series (10-2 and 3-0) before being tagged for just their second GAC loss.

Southeastern moved to 1517 overall and 8-9 in conference action and returns home for a big series with Oklahoma Baptist starting at 3 p.m. on Friday.

Runs were difficult to come by throughout the Harding series for the Savage Storm as they managed seven hits in the opener but were only able to get on the scoreboard with a two-run single from Morgan in the sixth inning.

Three hits by Morgan accounted for nearly half the Southeastern offensive total. Iliana Olivares tossed in two hits with Sabetha Sands and Susan Edwards producing one apiece.

Emily Simmons was solid in the pitching circle during the 3-0 loss to the Lady Bison but was saddled with the loss, yielding three runs on six hits. She struck out three and walked a pair. India Mc-Murray, meanwhile, had the only two Savage Storm hits in the game.

The finale saw Oden come through with easily her best performance of the season while evening her overall record to 4-4. She scattered five hits, struck out five and didn’t walk a batter while keeping the Lady Bison off balance throughout.

Southeastern’s run came in the third inning when Morgan opened with a single up the middle and moved over on a walk to Oden. A sacrifice bunt advanced both runners and Sands plated the run with a sacrifice fly to centerfield.
