Durant track faces rugged field at Plainview

It was a tough go for the Durant High School track team in the power-packed weather delayed Plainview Invitational on Monday afternoon.

Competing against a plethora of Class 6A powers and others in arguably their toughest environment of the season, the Lions had a handful of solid performances as the Durant girls were 15th in the team standings while the boys checked in 19th. Norman North edged Norman for the boys crown while host Plainview outdistanced Norman for the girls title.

Leading that charge on the girls’ side was Avery Sager, who notched a fourth place finish in the 800 meters with a time of 2:29.92.

Iyana Wilson had a nice showing in the 100 hurdles as well, taking fifth place individually with a run of 18.18 seconds.

Durant’s lone boys placer was Damien Almos, who battled through the 110 hurdles for a 16.84 mark that garnered him a fourth place finish.

Both the Lady Lions and Lions will face another challenge on Friday when they travel to the Ada Invitational.
