Several personal records fell and the Durant High track teams posted a handful of top performances in the always tough 17-team Ada Invitational last week as each team placed in the top three.
The Durant girls took third in the team standings with the boys notching a season-best second place team mark.
One of the first place efforts came in the girls’ sprint relay where the Lady Lions’ grouping of Iyana Wilson, Samiah Clegg, Kaitlen Rush and Starr Holmes claimed top honors with a quick 52.52 second finish.
The Lady Lions added a fourth place mark of 4:36.79 in the 1600 relay with the unit of Rush, Laynee Emert, Olivia Crossland and Avery Sager. The pairing of Sager, Crossland and Emert along with Judi Free checked in third in the 3200 relay at 10:59.55.
Individually, Sager won the 1600 meters in 5:49.44 as teammate Alexi Powell ran a personal best 6:33.65 for fourth while Free took fifth at 6:36.67. Sager was also second in the 800 meters with a time of 2:30.76 as Emert ended sixth with a personal best 2:42.74.
Crossland ran a personal best 1:06 for third in the 400 meters, Wilson recorded a time of 18.31 seconds to place sixth in the 100 hurdles and Aaniya Jones also posted a sixth in the 200 meters at 28.88.
In the girls’ field events, Bailey Cross notched a personal best eight-foot even mark in the pole vault while taking third. Sheraya Struble was third in discus as well at 94 feet, 11 inches, with teammates Emma Sherrer in fourth at 87 feet, 8 inches and Emma Gardner taking sixth at 85 feet, 4 inches.
Struble also claimed fourth in the shot put with a heave of 30 feet, 3.5 inches as Gardner wrapped up in sixth at 29 feet, 2 inches.
For the boys, big scoring in the relay events catapulted the Lions to the second place team slot, fueled by a first place time of 8:53.79 in the 3200 event with the foursome of K.J. Lowery, Madison Roper, Zach Ervin and Carter Kemp.
Roper teamed with Boston Browder, Josh Bull and Rylan Avery to claim third in the 1600 relay at 3:44.99. The Lion 800 relay unit of Shajen Davis, Eric Williams, Justin Andrus and Browder was fourth in 1:36.83 with the same four placing fifth in the sprint relay at 45.77 seconds.
Durant dominated the 300 hurdles with four of the top five finishers led by the gold medal effort of Avery, who ran a personal best 42.84 seconds. Williams was less than a second behind with a personal best 42.86 for second with Ivan Barrientos also setting a new best time of 43.96 for fourth. Damien Almos ended fifth at 44.14.
Almos also checked in second in the 110 high hurdles with a time of 16.64 seconds. Barrientos captured fourth with a personal best 17.59 and Bull ended sixth in 17.89.
Roper tossed in a runner-up showing in the 400 meters at 54.14 seconds and Ervin was also second in the 3200 meters at 11:05.09. Parker was also fifth in the 3200 by posting a personal best 11:44.89. Parker ended fifth in the 1600 meters also running a personal best 5:14.47.
Hunter Romero was the top Durant field event placer, wrapping up fourth in the discus with a heave of 123 feet, 6 inches.
