Bryan County United Way presented a $2,500 check last week to Red River Special Olympics and the funds are from UW’s recent Be a Hero 5K run.
Danielle Baker, regional engagement director for United Way Worldwide, was present for the donation.
Pam Robinson, director of United Way, said the check is for expenses for the children served by Red River Special Olympics.
“These kids, it takes money to get them to the different games and to do the different things for the quality of life and so, they make up their own minds on how they need to spend it,” Robinson said.
According to Robinson, UW has donated proceeds from the Be A Hero Run to Special Olympics for about five years.
Baker visited to help Bryan County United Way. “My purpose was to assist the Bryan County United Way with focusing on all of their impact work and identifying new ways to diversify revenue while supporting the most critical need in this community,” Baker said.
Robinson said, “I feel very honored that United Way Worldwide came to Durant, Oklahoma, to see what we are and to help us become better and bigger.”
