Silo Lady Rebels celebrate after defeating Stroud in the Class 4A slow pitch state tournament.
SHAWNEE – Calera bowed out in the opening round while Silo advanced to the state semifinals before being knocked out of the Class 4A slow pitch state tournament last week at Firelake Ballfields.
The second-ranked Lady Rebels blasted Stroud, 25-4, in its opener but couldn’t get their offense untracked in a 4-2 semifinal defeat to Pocola. Calera, meanwhile, ran into a buzz saw in its opening matchup, falling 12-1 to top-ranked and eventual state titleist Dale.
Silo wasted little time in its initial contest, scoring at least four times in all four innings of the run rule verdict.
The Lady Rebels got rolling with six tallies in the first as Jayci Webb delivered half that total with a three-run homer. Connie Tubby and Trinity Ford tossed in doubles. Neely House doubled in a run in a five-run second frame as Webb knocked in two more with her second homer.
Silo tacked on four more runs in the third inning spurred by a Bree Ginn two-run blast along with RBI doubles from Paetyn Garrett and Kostina Tubby. Ten runs in the fourth capped the charge as the Lady Rebels sent 13 batters to the plate fueled by a Maddix Sander grand slam.
Ginn led the charge with four hits and five runs batted in. Dylan Paddock added three hits while House, Garrett and Webb ended with two apiece.
Offense was much tougher to come by in the semifinals facing Pocola as the Lady Rebels produced just five hits.
Silo scored once in the second stanza to tie the game on a Ford two-out single and did the same in the fourth when Sander delivered a two-out RBI hit. Pocola, however, put it away with single runs in the sixth and seventh innings.
Paddock finished with two hits along with one each by Ginn, Ford and Sander.
Calera’s strong season was halted with a 31-13 record but could only come up with four hits in five innings.
The Lady Bulldogs scored the first run in the opening frame, cashing in half their hit total of the contest. Taibree Melton led off with a double to right and Taylynn Conder followed with a single. A walk loaded the bases and Tori Allmon’s fielder’s choice grounder plated the run before a strikeout and fly out ended the frame.
Dale erupted for five tallies in its half of the first and never looked back from there.
Melton chipped in a third inning single and Jeslyn O’Dell added a single in the fifth.
