Silo baseball state qualifying streak reaches 23

Silo baseball continued its annual right of passage to the spring state tournament, extending their string of consecutive appearances to 23 with a pair of Class 3A Super Regional shutouts of Beggs last week.

The Rebels cruised to 8-0 and 10-0 triumphs while improving to 29-5 on the season and running their winning streak to 15 in a row heading into the state tournament.

Senior hurler Landon Langley carried a no hitter into the sixth inning before settling for a one-hit complete game shutout on the mound. He struck out five and walked a pair.

Silo’s offense provided plenty of support, led by sophomore Aiden McCarty who tallied four hits and drove in four runs. The Rebels plated one in the first frame, two in the third, four in the fourth and finished it off with a run in the sixth just for good measure.

Sam Mendenall added two hits and drove in a pair for the Rebel offensive onslaught with Jeret House chipping in a double.

The Rebels scored early and often in the nightcap, pushing across three runs in the first frame along with five in the second and two in the third to cruise to the run rule decision.

McCarty notched the pitching verdict, scattering five hits over four innings while also striking out five. Nolan Northcott fanned a pair in one frame of perfect relief.

Silo picked up balanced hitting in the contest with six players all posting hits. They were led by two hits and three RBI from Braden Hill while Bryce Vanderburg homered and also finished with two hits and two batted in.

Northcott and Jory Allen wrapped up with two hits apiece.
