Silo erupted for its highest state tournament scoring production since 2017 with an 18-2 blasting of Metro Christian but the Rebel bats weren’t able to come up with enough key hits in a 3-2 loss to three-time defending champ Washington in the semifinals.
After struggling offensively against the Rebels, the Warriors found their offensive way to pick up their fourth consecutive 4A title with a 10-5 win over Marlow in the title tilt.
Metro grabbed an early 1-0 lead through one inning of the opener but the Patriots then had no answer for the Silo bats, whether it was small ball or extra base hits. Coach Eddie Jeffcoat’s club racked up 18 hits in just five innings as they posted five doubles, one triple, a home run and six bunt singles.
A six-run second inning provided all the runs the Rebels would need but they were far from finished. Aiden Mc-Carty ignited the surge with a triple and Nolan Northcott doubled him home to tie the contest. Back-to-back bunt hits from Jory Allen and Zane Sander set up a two-run double by Landon Langley and Jeret House capped the flurry with a two-run homer.
Metro narrowed the gap to 6-2 before Silo went back to work in the fourth stanza, notching a pair of bunt singles from Langley and Braden Hill after Sander was hit by a pitch. House, Bryce Vandenburg, Sam Mendenall and Mc-Carty all single as eight straight Rebels reached base to start the frame on the way to another six-run outburst.
There were two outs in the fifth when the Rebels exploded once more, ignited by a McCarty double, two free passes and two Metro errors. Langley provided a double that knocked in three and he also scored on a Cord Standridge hit.
Every starter in the lineup had at least one hit for Silo, led by three hits and five RBI off the bat of Langley while House was only a triple away from hitting for the cycle as he tallied a single, double and homer while driving in three. McCarty also notched three hits and knocked in a pair of runs. Northcott and Hill added two hits apiece. The 18 runs was their most in a state tournament game since blitzing Dale, 20-2, in the 2017 state finals.
The Rebels utilized four pitchers with Hill picking up the mound victory, yielding one run on three hits over two solid frames. Langley, Mendenall and Northcott also tossed in one inning apiece.
Base running errors proved costly for the Rebels in the narrow loss to Washington as they outhit the Warriors 9-8 but couldn’t take advantage of that along with four Warrior errors defensively.
Silo picked up the game’s first run in the second inning thanks to singles by Vandenburg and McCarty, but Washington answered with solo tallies in the third and fifth stanzas.
Down to their final three outs in the seventh, the Rebels got opening hits from McCarty and Northcott. An error scored a run to tie the contest with nobody out but Silo had the potential go-ahead runner picked off third and couldn’t get any more runs across.
Liam Keltner tripled to start the bottom of the frame and rode home with the winning run on a sacrifice fly.
McCarty ended with three hits one again with two apiece coming from Sander and Vandenburg as the Rebels finished the season at 306.
