Bryan County OHCE is proud of their member Frances Speers who received the Southeast District’s “Heart of OHCE” award presented at the district OHCE meeting held in Sulphur. Frances was nominated by her County OHCE group.
Frances is a member of the Calera OHCE group. Frances has been an active OHCE member for sixteen years. For fifteen years, she has served as the Chaplain for her local and County clubs.
For four years, she has served as the chairperson of Community Blessing Boxes, our County’s OHCE community service project. Monthly, she encouraged members to donate items as needed, such as lap blankets, gloves, socks, caps during the winter months, male and female hygiene items, and nonperishable snacks and foods. Frances even delivered the donated items to nine blessing boxes sites with the help of her family members. She personally donated items and delivered them to the blessing box sites on a regular basis.
Frances is a Choctaw elder and proud of her Choctaw heritage. She enjoys attending lunches with other tribal elders at the Choctaw Nation Community Center. Frances and her church’s quilt group have made several quilts given to Veterans and crib quilts donated to the Pregnancy Center.
Frances has received other honors due to her service work with Extension Service and 4-H: Bryan County Free Fair honoree and Bryan County 4-H Honorary Memberaward.Shevolunteersmany hours working at the Bryan County Free Fair and helping with 4-H activities.
Representing the Southeast District, Frances is a candidate for the State “Heart of OHCE” award to be announce at the State OHCE Meeting scheduled in July. A reception to honor France Speers will be held on June 4th given by Bryan County OHCE members.
