The annual Wade-Albany Reunion was last Saturday at the Wade-Albany Senior Citizen Center with almost 100 people in attendance.
There were 95 in attendance and according to Jim Dunegan, president of the reunion, a good time was had by all.
“It actually started 43 years ago as the school reunion, but the schools are gone, but we still have the reunion,” Dunegan said. “The high school graduating class, the last one was 1958. We’ve continued to have the reunion and Wade and Albany are still in together.”
Dunegan said the reunion keeps growing every year and his sister Winnie Fox is the secretary/treasurer for the reunion. She sends out invitations.
“Since Facebook is here, it brings a lot more people and she sends out messages and folks we haven’t seen in years are here today,” Dunegan said. “First time in 43 years they came back. It’s always great to see them.
“Today, we recognized folks over 90 and we had 10 people here over 90 and they’re still in good health and going. A lot of the people that we invite may not have went to school here. They’re part of the community and we’re glad to have them.”
Dunegan said the food is always good and he credited the volunteers with making the reunion happen.
“People give and they give far more than we need and so that makes us able to do other things from this building and help the senior center here as well,” Dunegan said. “So, we’re just grateful to everyone that comes and it’s a great meeting. They love to get together, and they start about 9 o’clock in the morning. The visiting takes place and it’s just exciting.”
Dunegan is a 1958 graduate of Albany High School, and he was one of three graduates that year. The other two are Larry L. Henderson and Joe Lee Tigner.
“They’re all here today,” Dunegan said. “There was three of us and we’re all still living. All in our 80s.”
In a social media post, Fox said, “The 2025 is a wrap. It was successful and I enjoyed seeing every one of you. I appreciated all the help. Mark your calendars for The 3rd Saturday July 2026.”
