Fuller resigns from Durant City Council

Durant City Council Member for Ward 2 Lauran Fuller announced her resignation last week.

In a letter to Mayor Martin Tucker and council members, she said it was an honor and privilege to serve the citizens of Durant, but after much consideration, she decided she must resign immediately.

“This decision comes as a result of a recent professional opportunity that requires my relocation across the state,” Fuller said, in her resignation letter. She said she accepted a teaching position with Southwestern Oklahoma State University.

“While I am excited for this next chapter, it is bittersweet to step away from serving the community that has meant so much to me and my family,” Fuller said.

During her time on the city council, Fuller said she was proud to work alongside colleagues, city staff and citizens to strengthen the community and lay a foundation for continued growth.

“I am deeply grateful for the trust placed in me and for the relationships formed throughout my service,” Fuller said. “Durant will always hold a special place in my heart, and I look forward to following the city’s continued success in the years ahead.”

Fuller was unopposed when she filed for city council in February. She was first elected in 2023 to fill the remainder of Oden Grube’s term, who stepped down due to health reasons.
