Lady Lion softball gears up for return to district

Following a lengthy layoff from league play, the Durant Lady Lions jump right back into a busy week of District 5A-3 action including a home doubleheader with Del City on Tuesday.

Coach Jimmie Wyrick’s club came up short in a trio of losses on the road this past week as they fell to Tishomingo (5-4), Tushka (9-5) and Dickson (6-2).

Errors proved costly in a couple of those with defensive miscues, but Durant was in prime position regardless in the matchup with Tishomingo before a 4-2 edge slipped away in the final frame. Three singles and a double proved to be decisive in that late stanza.

The Lady Lions erased a 2-0 first inning deficit by notching a pair of tallies in the fifth frame as the offense was triggered by Ryan Uber and Dasia Lewis singles. They tacked on another run one inning later to claim the lead as Emma Sherrer opened with a single and her runner came around to score on a sacrifice by Uber.

Durant cashed in a Tishomingo miscue to plate another in the top of the seventh before it all came crashing down. Sherrer however had two of the five Durant hits in the contest. Korbyn Robinson added a double.

Nine DHS errors resulted in six unearned runs in the Tushka loss despite the Lady Lions plating a run in each of the first four innings.

Sherrer, Robinson and Uber all contributed two hits in the Durant seven-hit attack.

Wyrick’s unit captured a 2-0 first inning edge in the Dickson setback but it would not last as the Lady Comets rallied with the final six tallies as the DHS offense went doormat.

It was three hits and two RBI by Sherrer that paced the Lady Lion offensive charge while Kenzie Trotter added a pair of hits. Anslee Morse and Kaitlen Rush had one apiece.
