Calera drops Silo, Rock Creek softball verdicts

Silo scored at least once in all but one inning Friday to cruise past Calera, 8-3, in area softball action.

The Lady Rebels cashed in a solid performance in the pitching circle from Brylee Smothers while notching their 11th win of the young season. Smothers tossed all seven innings, scattering six hits with two earned runs, struck out four and walked four batters.

Silo’s offense also utilized contributions up and down the batting lineup, especially the bottom of the order where Jayci Webb provided the spark in going three for three at the plate while driving in a run and scoring two others.

A three-run second inning proved to be the proverbial dagger for Silo as they cashed in four straight singles, three of which came from the bottom of the lineup. Paetyn Garrett added the first followed by Paislee Johnson and Webb to load the bases ahead of a Calera error and big hit from Trinity Ford.

Ford, Garrett and Neely House each posted two hits for the Lady Rebels with one each from Maddix Sander, Connie Tubby and Johnson.

Calera got a strong game at the plate from Tori Allmon, who had a double and half of the Lady Bulldogs’ six hits. Kaira Beller, Jaedyn Umsted and Aaliyah Wesley chipped in one apiece.

The Lady Bulldogs also dropped a 5-4 extra-inning verdict to Rock Creek on Thursday as freshman Kountry St. John doubled home the winning run in the eighth for the Lady Mustangs.

Kami Wilson went all eight innings in the pitching circle for Rock Creek, scattering six hits. St. John finished with three hits, including a pair of doubles. Audrey Skinner and Lilly Torres had two hits apiece.

Calera was led at the plate by Taryn Niblett, who tallied a pair of hits, with Makenna Owens contributing one and two RBI.

Rock Creek Lady Mustang Mahlia Venegas is about to hit the ball during a recent game.
