Silo’s fastpitch softball team rebounded from a narrow pool play loss to 5A state contender Tahlequah to roll through bracket play to claim its rugged home invitational title last week.
The Lady Rebels outgunned 3A challenger Sequoyah Tahlequah, 10-5, in the title tilt after the Lady Indians had stunned crosstown rival Tahlequah in an extra-inning semifinal. Silo was a 3-0 victor over Class B powerhouse Red Oak in the other semifinal matchup, avenging one of its four early losses on the season.
In that Red Oak contest, the Lady Rebels rode a dazzling one-hit complete game pitching performance from Brylee Smothers as she limited the Lady Eagles with four strikeouts and three walks.
Silo made the most of eight hits as Kamrey Hendricks, Paislee Johnson and Dylan Paddock accounted for two hits and one RBI apiece at the bottom of the batting order.
The Lady Rebels got the bats going in a big way for the finals, especially those of Kostina Tubby and Maddix Sander. Tubby belted a pair of two-run homers and Sander smacked a two-run shot of her own to stake Silo to a 6-0 edge heading into the fifth inning.
Sequoyah responded with five straight runs to narrow the gap to a single run before the Lady Rebels put it away with four tallies in the bottom of the sixth. Sander’s two-out bases clearing double was the key blow with Connie Tubby also chipping in a run-scoring single.
Kostina Tubby fired all seven innings, scattering five hits with six strikeouts and six walks.
