On October 1, 2025, members of the Oklahoma Home and Community Education met in the Clay Jones community building to review the happenings of the Bryan County Fair and to make preparations for new projects in the future.
President Phyllis Bond called the meeting to order and minutes of the August meeting were reviewed and a report from the treasurer was given.
There was no request for cards to be sent at this time.
Cultural Enrichment chairman Frances Speers reported a number of activities that will be taking place at the Choctaw Cultural Center. She indicated that the Center give various classes for both children and adults. She urges those interested should contact the Center for times, dates, and places. There will be an American Heritage Day Celebration on October 31, 2025.
Family Issues chairman Sue Myer related that this is Breast Cancer Month and the ladies should be aware of this and have their Mammograms done.
Healthy Living Chairman Ivy Hughs related the upcoming Senior Health Fair which is to take place on October 8th at the Bryan County Fairground.
Resource Management chairman Doris Harris called attention to the Quilter’s Garage Sale which is to take place on October 25, 2025, 9:00 a,3:00pm at 12365S Chisolm Rd. Caddo, Oklahoma. There will be fabric and other notions available.
The treasurer informed the group that our sales from the Country Store at the Fair this year was down this year.
She encouraged the ladies to continue their efforts in selling tickets for the beautiful quilt that is to given in December.
These efforts are to make available two $700 scholarships available to eligible students in Bryan County.
She also reminded the members that the annual dues should be paid today and should accompany Membership form.
The FCS Extension Educator gave a report and shared that the Bryan County members provided 32 pillow cases for the “Ryan Case for Smiles” project. She shared that the 2027 Southeast District Meeting will be held in Tishomingo. The first planning meeting will be in January of 2026 and place will be announced at a later date. For the November Leader Lesson will be “How to make pie crust for 20 pies.” She told the members what supplies to bring.
At “Show and Tell,” Pat Accountius show the Christmas stocking she is making and a crocheted cross Bookmarker. During this period, Pat suggested that the Bryan County OHCE ladies take the project of the November (Winter jackets and items) and December(Non-perishable food) community service project and present an Award Book to be sent to the State Award Chairman. She volunteered to act as the person to do what is necessary to prepare this Award Book.
