Caddo hammers Keota to improve to 8-0

Caddo continued its 2025 gridiron dominance last week with a 48-0 mercy rule thrashing of Keota to remain undefeated on the season.

The Bruins improved their record to 8-0, which is the school’s best start since its perfect run to the 2011 state championship.

“We executed well and took care of the football,” head coach Jeff Wigington stated. “We did what we were supposed to do even though they were trying to limit possessions with ball control. Our defense gave up a few first downs but that was basically all they got. We only needed to throw the ball six times because of how effective our running game was and we scored each time we got the ball. We really didn’t have a chance to run many plays.

“We incorporated Noah Dry a little more into the mix this week and he came up with a couple of touchdowns. I was proud of him.”

The Bruins rolled to a 21-0 advantage through one period and added 27 more points in the second to end it at halftime behind their balanced attack that included six explosive plays of more than 20 yards.

Quarterback Cale Wigington was extremely efficient through the air, completing five passes in his six attempts for 149 yards and two touchdowns. Jake McKay had both touchdowns in his two receptions for 78 yards. Noah Carvel added two catches for 38 yards and Dry snagged one pass for 12 yards.

Wigington also spurred the rushing charge that piled up 199 yards as he carried seven times for 93 and a score. Bayler Black posted 63 yards and a pair of touchdowns on seven totes as well while Dry contributed three carries for 43 yards and the two scores.

The dominating defensive effort included four players with double figure tackle totals fueled by 16 from Dry. Black chipped in 15 stops as Jase Counce tallied 12 and McKay tossed in 11 tackles.

Alec Lopez pitched in six tackles and caused a fumble that Mason Scarborough recovered for the Bruins. They also recovered a surprise onside kick.

Caddo will close a three-game road swing at Canadian on Friday while preparing for a massive Top 5 state showdown with defending champ Dewar in Week 10.

“We know that we are playing a team that’s 1-7 this week but are preparing for them like everyone else,” Coach Wigington said. “Knock on wood we can get out healthy and be ready for the big showdown at home next week. If we execute and take care of the football we should be in pretty good shape.”
