Bryan County OHCE has meeting

On November 5, 2025, members of the Oklahoma Home and Community Education (OHCE) met in the Clay Jones Community Building to review the happenings of the Bryan County Fair and to make preparations for new projects in the future.

Vice-President Mary Knight called the meeting to order and minutes of the October meeting were reviewed and approved.

Cards were requested for those who were in need of being uplifted or in need of prayers. .

Cultural Enrichment chairman Frances Speers reported a number of activities that will be taking place at the Choctaw Cultural Center. She indicated that the Center give various classes for both children and adults. She urges those interested should contact the Center for times, dates, and places.

Family Issues chairman Sue Myer related that because of the government shut down that neighbors are helping neighbors by donating food to the local food banks and other helpful organizations.

Healthy Living chairman Ivy Hughs provided the group with a number of healthy recipes. Corn Bread salad, easy grape dumpling and ways to use and enjoy pumpkins were also provided.

Resource Management chairman Doris Harris said the Choctaw tribe is providing a monthly allowance to the elderly and families in need due to the temporary suspension of the SNAP Program.

There was no further report in regards to the scholarships until the applications are received. It was also reported that the group needs to continue to encourage the sale of additional tickets for the drawing of the beautiful quilt.

For the November Community Service Project, members provided a number of winter items to be taken to the Calera Rest Home. Coats, scarves, socks, lap blankets and gloves were gathered to be delivered.

Members were reminded that the December Community Service Project was the gathering of non-perishable and canned food. These will be donated to one of the local Food Banks.

Members planned their holiday program schedule for December 3rd. Plans are to play bingo. Everyone is asked to bring a $20.00 gift and finger foods. Tommie M. James will be teaching a lesson on “food mixes.”

Members discussed ideas regarding leader lessons and educational tours suggested for 2026 year.

James presented the 2026 Bryan County OHCE Diversity Plan for civil rights.

At “show and tell,” Frances Speers modeled her shirt that she embroidered on her machine.
