A bond proposition for Silo Public Schools was approved by voters on Nov. 18.
According to the Bryan County Election Board, there were 945 votes in favor of it, 65.22 percent, compared to 504 opposed, 34.78 percent. School bond propositions require a 60 percent super majority to pass.
The bond is in the amount of $21,950,000 to fund construction of a gymnasium, cafeteria, classrooms, a safe room and to build a sewage lagoon waste system that meets Oklahoma Department of Environmental Quality requirements.
It also will fund equipping, repairing and remodeling school buildings, plus obtaining furniture, fixtures and equipment to improve school sites.
The bonds will have an interest not to exceed 10 percent per annum to be paid semi-annually and become due within 10 years.
Silo Superintendent Kate McDonald cited the tremendous growth of the school district in recent years as the reason for the proposition. She said the school had outgrown its current facilities.
In May, a $52,640,000 Silo Schools bond proposition failed because it only received 50.74 percent in favor of it.
The school district is excited that the proposition passed.
“Congratulations Silo,” the district said, in a social media post. “What a great day to be a Rebel!”
