Tough field position all night for Caddo and monster plays in the passing game propelled Laverne to a 48-0 Class B1 second round playoff victory over the Bruins.
The loss was the second year in a row that the Bruin season came to an end after the long 322-mile trek to northwest Oklahoma. Caddo finished with a 10-2 overall record, its best mark since the state championship campaign of 2011.
Caddo was stopped on four downs on its opening possession, and the Tigers quickly showed an omen of things to come with a 36-yard touchdown pass less than three minutes into the game for a 6-0 edge.
Laverne rode a methodical 69-yard, 12play drive to a second score later in the quarter before a 45-yard kickoff return by Jake McKay seemed to give the Bruins a spark. It was short lived, however, as they managed only one yard in four plays against an aggressive Tiger defense.
The hosts cashed in a Caddo fumble on the first play of the second period with an immediate 27-yard scoring pass. An 80yard touchdown toss on the next Laverne series pushed the lead to 26-0.
A fourth touchdown pass late in the frame extended the cushion going into the half.
Senior quarterback Cale Wigington tallied 45 yards rushing on 10 carries before intermission but that proved to be the bulk of the Caddo offense as they completed only three passes for no yards.
Laverne picked up a fifth scoring pass covering eight yards on the first drive of the third period and the Tigers put it away on the mercy rule with a short touchdown run with 2:48 left in the third.
The hosts finished with 222 yards through the air and 209 on the ground for 431 yards of total offense while upping their record to 10-2 while advancing to the state semifinals for the fifth time in the last six years.
