Turkey drop from helicopter benefits Durant students

The third-annual Turkey Drop to benefit the Durant School District’s backpack program was Saturday at the high school.

A helicopter dropped a turkey onto the student parking lot.

The event was presented by KSEO, KLBC and The Buzz radio stations, and Hilary Allen, afternoon drive host on B99.7 The Buzz, said listeners made donations to the school district’s backpack program.

“Those donations get them spots on our giant game board drawn out here on the parking lot,” Allen said. “Then, when the helicopter flies over, we will drop a turkey out of it and whoever’s spot that turkey lands on or closest to wins a $250 Green Spray foods gift card just in time for Thanksgiving.”

The benefit collected non-perishable food items.

“They actually pack those in backpacks for kids within Durant ISD who may be in need of a little extra help,” Allen said.

Kelsey Jackson was the winner of the Turkey Drop.
