Over the past four years Logan Bumgarner has been a mainstay in the Calera baseball lineup, helping lead the Bulldogs to record heights in that time span.
The senior catalyst is a multitime All Bryan County Conference performer, including capturing Most Valuable Player and Pitcher of the Year honors last spring. He was also an instrumental part of the Bulldogs’ first-ever state tournament victory in that spring campaign as well.
Next year the Calera stalwart will have the opportunity to continue his career at the collegiate level after recently signing a scholarship offer with Redlands Community College in El Reno. He will have the chance to help the Cougars as a two-way player with his bat as well as arm on the pitching mound.
“It’s been a big dream of mine since I was little,” Bumgarner said of the scholarship opportunity. “I have always wanted to play college ball and am grateful for the chance next year at Redlands. It really felt like home on my visit there.”
Bumgarner has been a true dual threat for the Calera baseball team throughout his seven seasons thus far in high school, serving as the team’s shortstop and mound ace each year as his numbers have steadily improved.
Last spring alone he was the team’s offensive catalyst with a .406 batting average with 11 doubles, four triples and a home run while driving in 27 runs, scoring another 53, stealing 17 bases and notching a dandy on-base percentage of .557.
While his pitching numbers weren’t as eye-popping as previous seasons, he was drawing all the toughest assignments while still posting a 3-2 overall record in 44 2/3 innings of which he scattered 54 hits, struck out 46 and walked 16 in contributing a 3.44 earned run average.
In another state tournament season this past fall, Bumgarner worked 51 innings on the mound with a 4-2 overall record. He struck out 44 and posted a 1.51 ERA while opposing hitters batted only .170.
His career numbers as a Bulldog speak for themselves with a .357 batting average that has included 205 total hits, 49 doubles, six homers, 143 runs batted in and 58 stolen bases.
On the mound, with one season still remaining, he has notched a 22-12 record and 2.29 ERA with a very impressive 264 strikeout total.
