Durant to celebrate ribbon cutting, dedication of restored 1924 Market Square Cafe

The City of Durant, in partnership with Durant Main Street and the Durant Area Chamber of Commerce, will host a ribbon cutting and dedication ceremony for the Historic Market Square Cafe at 4 p.m. Jan. 13.

Located at 1st and Evergreen, the landmark building was originally constructed in 1924 and has remained vacant since the 1990s.

The city said the restoration project has preserved the building’s original beauty and historical integrity while reopening the doors to the community for the first time in decades.

“The refreshed facility will now serve as a multipurpose venue for various civic and community uses,” the city said, in a news release. “This ceremony marks the official return of the historic site to public life, ensuring the structure remains a vibrant part of downtown Durant’s future.”
