Silo basketball teams rode dominant performances, including a tournament record 40 three pointers from the girls to a pair of Arbuckle Winter Classic championships at Davis last weekend.
The Lady Rebels sizzled through most of the competition, blasting Ringling (86-34) in the opener before pulling past Marietta (45-33) and then exploding all over host Davis (64-35) in the title tilt to improve to 9-2 on the season.
Coach Adam Dworsky’s Rebels were also impressive with a trio of double digit triumphs over Roff (72-46), Wilson (60-48) and previously unbeaten and Class A ninthranked Velma-Alma (60-49) in the championship as they also moved their record to 9-2.
Girls
Silo set the tone from the very start with seven treys in the very first quarter of the tournament while blitzing Ringling 29-4 through one and 55-9 at halftime.
Coach Jake Jobe’s squad finished the contest by shooting 17 for 50 from three-point range to challenge the tourney record (21 treys) in the opening contest.
Four Lady Rebels posted double figures led by Kynleigh Pierce with 14 points as Olivia Clark and Parri Garrett chipped in 12 each and Mia Goodlow added 10. Brooklynn Redwine was just shy of a fifth as she ended with nine points.
They only connected on one three pointer in the first frame against Marietta and trailed 11-4 before staging a comeback. Silo cut the deficit to 15-13 at intermission and took the lead for good at 29-24 while pulling away down the stretch.
Silo tallied another eight treys with Pierce pacing a balanced charge with 12 points along with eight apiece by Kamrey Henricks and Goodlow.
There was definitely no slow start in the finale as the Lady Rebels canned three straight three pointers to open the game and never looked back. They were up 16-10 through one quarter, 25-18 at halftime and broke it wide open with a 24-point third stanza in which Redwine sank three consecutive treys.
In total Silo finished with 14 more three pointers for the game, fueled by 17 points and seven rebounds from Pierce. Redwine scored 15 with Hendricks and Goodlow notching nine each.
Boys
Strong defense and execution were the right ingredients for the tremendous run to the tournament crown.
Against Roff in the opening round, the Rebels broke open a tight outing with a 24-10 second period flurry and continued to pull away from there. They almost shot as well as the girls as Silo connected for 13 from long range in the contest.
Junior Cash Danker racked up 19 points as Hayden Roberts added 14 and Zane Sander popped in 10. Luke Coulter was just shy of double digits with nine points while Barett Snapp added eight.
Despite being an underdog in the semifinals, Silo got 11 first quarter points from Danker en route to a 19-9 first quarter lead and maintained that margin throughout. They were ahead 35-18 at intermission and 49-31 heading into the final stanza.
Danker topped all scorers with 16 points with another 15 coming from Blane Beauchamp. Hayden Roberts tallied 10 and Sam Mendenall chipped in nine points.
Facing a Velma-Alma squad with more size, the Rebels held their own on the boards in the title tilt with another solid showing off the bench from Beauchamp and Kason Proctor. Danker was nearly unstoppable offensively, especially in the second half, as he tied a career high with 28 points. Roberts checked in with nine and Beauchamp scored seven.
